What if we cleansed our hearts of all sin the way we are washing our hands? What if instead of just avoiding situations where we could possibly contract the corona virus we avoided any evil that could contaminate our hearts? What if instead of hoarding goods we were to earnestly seek the great gifts of God to be able to bless others with them? (1 Corinthians 12:31) What if instead of just preparing for a sickness we prepared for our deaths? Because we will all die. (Most likely not from the Convid19 though!)
It’s strange that we fear suffering here on earth so much, but often ignore the thought of eternal suffering.
It’s funny how we’ve thought our houses, schools, places of work were clean enough until this virus came along. Suddenly there isn’t enough hand sanitizer to go around! (not to mention toilet paper) I wonder if our hearts are the same if we look at them with eyes of eternity?
God is HOLY.
That is something that we cannot comprehend and don’t think too deeply about. He is so Holy that we cannot look at Him without dying! (Exodus 33:20) And He calls us to be holy! (1 Peter 1:16) Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14)
God is HOLY. SEPARATE. COMPLETELY WITHOUT STAIN.
1 John 2:1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world 3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.
Too often we skip the “obey” part. Repeating some words of a prayer without a heart change are as good for us as toilet paper against the coronavirus! Read Romans chapter 6, we can’t go on sinning thinking it doesn’t matter since, God’s grace will abound! I’m not preaching a works based salvation, I’m saying that over and over again we see through scripture that a changed heart and life are the outcome of truly surrendering to Christ. (and that work is also done by Christ!) If we deliberately keep sinning there is no sacrifice left. (Hebrews 10:26)
As we focus on keeping our hands clean, staying away from sick people and trying to keep ourselves healthy, let us remember that the corona virus has very little power beside our God. Will I be as zealous for a pure heart as I am to protect my body? Will you? I pray that I can live accordingly, and you too! And if we are to fear, let’s fear God, hold Him in reverence and recognize Him as Holy.
Matthew 10:28 “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. 30 And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.
