Stop politicizing Jesus

If you think that a decent or real christian could never vote for a certain political party, I’m writing to you.   Jesus was not a political figure. In fact He fled from it (John 6:15)  Because His kingdom is not of this world! (John 18:36)

Acts 17:24 “He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, 25 and human hands can’t serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need. 26 From one man[a] he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries.

Romans 13:1 Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.

Romans 9:17 For the Scriptures say that God told Pharaoh, “I have appointed you for the very purpose of displaying my power in you and to spread my fame throughout the earth.”

Acts 23:5 “I’m sorry, brothers. I didn’t realize he was the high priest,” Paul replied, “for the Scriptures say, ‘You must not speak evil of any of your rulers.’”

1 Peter 2:17 Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.

As part of the body of Christ, we need to stop calling eachother names.

Romans 12: 3Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. 4Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. 9Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. 10Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. 14Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. 15Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. 16Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all! 17Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. 18Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. 19Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,“I will take revenge;I will pay them back,”says the LORD.20Instead,“If your enemies are hungry, feed them.If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.”21Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.

If you are willing to think that other Christians who don’t agree with you politically are idiots, as Christians we are one, so you are insulting yourself.

Matthew 5:22 But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell.

When we are hyper focused on how others deserve our hate and wrath we are forgetting that we deserve the wrath of God, no matter how “good we think we are”. (Luke 18:10-14) If we want justice for them, do we want it for ourselves? When I realize how great my need is for Jesus’ blood on the cross, I plead mercy even for those I dislike, disagree with, find offensive, have wronged and sinned against me.

I’m assuming that Jesus would vote if he were walking the earth today because He would be a responsible citizen,  but He wouldn’t be rude, disrespectful or hateful towards those who voted differently than Him.  (Remember, Jesus died on the cross to forgive anyone, even those who brutally tortured and hung Him there.) Each of us has to vote in such a way that our conscience doesn’t condemn us.  And let’s remember that there are smart, loving, kind and generous people who love God and whom Jesus died for, on each side of the political fence. If you can’t see that you need to take a serious look inside yourself.

This is what God has been teaching me! Let me know if God used this in any way to speak to you!
